Blue Mountain Mounted Orienteering

Mounted Orienteering is a challenging and exciting horseback sport - for the competitive as well as the family horse rider! It's like a mounted scavenger hunt, which will test your horsemanship, your map reading ability, and your compass skills - all while having great fun with your horse!

Participants are given a map with objective station location circles drawn on it. The map is then used to travel to the area where one of the circles is located and begin looking for the clues. There will be at least three clues for each objective station and at least two of these will intersect at the objective station, allowing it to be precisely located. The objective station will consist of a paper plate with two letters on it; when you find it, record the letters and begin looking for the next objective station.

This sport can be done as an individual or as a member of a team. Each rider or team is timed. The team or rider that finds all of the plates in the least amount of time is considered the winner. The course may be ridden competitively but many riders just enjoy the ride and the challenge of trying to find all of the objective stations and do not worry about the time it takes them.
